Cycling

Cycling is probably the best way to have an up close and personal experience with the island’s history, culture and traditions; with its varied landscapes, volcanic rock formations, wetlands and waterfalls; with its forests, gorges, groves, meadows and beaches; with its birds and animals and more than 1400 plant species; and best of all, with its people. The well-developed and continually growing network of trails allows you to cycle from one end of the island to the other and also provides many circular routes along the way. Whether it’s a cobbled trail laid by monks hundreds of years ago, a groomed dirt path, a paved rural road, or a narrow donkey trail, you’re sure to be overwhelmed by it all.
