4th Summer Guitar Music Academy “ARION” Lesvos – Molyvos
July 29, 2015 - August 4, 2015
On the island of Lesvos, in idyllic Molyvos, the birthplace of the mythical guitarist Arion, exceptional guitarists and musicianswill be giving master classes, seminars, lectures, workshops and recitals, during an exciting week of music making.
This year “Arion” will focus on different music styles that can be interpreted with the guitar, such as classical guitar, Brazilian and jazz fingerstyle, interpretation and accompaniment of songs, as well as eastern music.
Three different kind of competitions will also take place:

for young guitarists until 14 years old

for guitarists without age limit
-
for guitar orchestras or big guitar ensembles
Participants of “Arion” can be students, guitar ensembles of every level, as well as guitar soloists and professors.
The Invited Artists
Hubert Käppel: Among the most important German guitarists, professor of the Music Academy of Cologne.
Tolgahan Cogulu: Prominent Turk guitarist, designer of the adjustable microtonal guitar, Associate Professor at the Turkish Music State Conservatory.

Dimitris Soukaras: Guitarist, prize winner of the 3rd Summer Guitar Academy Arion.
Antonis Vassiliadis: Percussionist.
Korina Vougiouka:Guitarist, artistic coordinator of the Guitar Summer Academy “Arion”.
Yannis Yakoumakis: Guitarist.
The competitions
Category up to 14 years old (participants born from 01/01/01): participants will have to interpret a work of a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
Prize: free participation at the Summer Academy “Arion” 2016, as well as music material.
Category without age limit: participants will have to interpret two works of a maximum total duration of 20 minutes.
Prize: 30 minute recital at the Summer Academy “Arion” 2015, which will have a 300 euros prize.
Large guitar ensembles: each ensemble will have to interpret works of a maximum duration of 15 minutes.
Prize: free participation at the Summer Academy “Arion” 2016 for every member of the winning ensemble, as well as free music material.
The seminars
– For classical guitar: by H. Käppel, K. Vougiouka, Y. Yakoumakis, K. Makriyannakis, G. Behlivanoglou, E. Skarkou.
– Jazz και brazilian fingerstyle: by G. Danis.
The workshops
– Workshops for large guitar orchestras and ensembles: daily rehearsals that will end up to concert presentation. Players will receive in advance the works to be rehearsed. Coordinators: K. Vougiouka, G. Behlivanoglou.
The lectures
‘Microtonal guitar music’, by T. Cogulu.
‘The role of the guitar in song repertoire’ by D. Papadimitriou.
‘Midi, synthesizer and new technology’: lecture by E. Skarkou.
The concerts
Concerts with the participation of the invited artists, as well as participant’s concert.
Music-theatre workshop
For the second time, “Arion” organizes a music-theatre workshop offering a parallel activity for children 8-13 years old, who are not necessarily familiar with music making and. Coordinator: D. Papastavrou.
Additional activities
Focusing on the role of the body in the music making procedure yoga lesson will be offered, emphasizing on the guitarist’s needs.
For those who like nature activities there will be organized walking trips in the wider region of Molyvos.
Participation
Full participation (120 euro): participation as performer in the master classes, the guitar orchestra, the workshops, the final student concert as well as free entrance to the concerts.
Listener’s participation (80 euro): participation in the guitar orchestra, participation as listener in the workshops, the final student concert as well as free entrance to the concerts.
